lap split = goal time × (400 m ÷ race distance)
Even pacing prices every meter identically, so the calculator divides your goal by the distance and scales back up: times 400 for the lap, times 200 for the half-lap, times 1000 and 1609.344 for kilometer and mile pace. A 4:00 goal in the 1500 m becomes 240 seconds ÷ 1500 m = 0.16 s per meter, which is a 64-second lap, a 32-second 200, and 2:40 per kilometer. The table accumulates lap by lap, and any distance left over after the full laps gets its own final segment, so the last cumulative entry always equals the goal to the second rather than drifting off through rounded splits.

When should I use the track split calculator?
Before any timed effort on the oval: a 3200 m time trial, a goal-mile session, or a paced 5000 — where a 20:00 target means holding 96-second laps for twelve and a half circuits. Written-down splits turn a finish time into something you can verify every 200 m.
What do I need to enter?
Two things only: the event from the standard list and your goal time. Every output on the page recalculates from that pair, so testing a more ambitious or more conservative goal takes one edit.
How should I read the lap table?
Each row shows the split for that lap and the cumulative time you should see on the clock as you complete it. Memorize the first few cumulative figures — if the clock disagrees early, there are laps left to correct gradually instead of surging all at once.
Why does the 1500 m table end with a 300 m segment?
Because 1500 m is three full laps plus 300 m on a 400 m track. The leftover distance gets its own line and its own time instead of being rounded away, and the cumulative column still lands squarely on your goal.
What about a 200 m indoor track?
Halve the 400 m figure — which is exactly the 200 m split already shown — and you have your indoor lap target. Per-kilometer and per-mile paces apply on any surface, though tight indoor bends often cost a touch of speed at the same effort.
Are even splits how races are actually run?
Championship racing is tactical — slow early laps, surges, a kick — but for time trials and personal bests, even splits stay the benchmark because they spend energy at a constant rate. Treat the table as the disciplined baseline and deviate on purpose, not by accident.
